blog—The Extensions of Thought
Herbert Marshall McLuhan once told us—The personal and social consequences of any medium—that is，of any extension of ourselves—result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves，or by any new technology． The computer network，as one kind of new technology and new medium，day by day is changing our life， changing us．
In recent years appears a new online communication way—blog，which is developing fast．According to the blog search Technorati statistics, at present,the numble of blogger in whole world has surpassed 1.4 hundred million,and this quantity is by each second 10 astonishing speeds increasing． If McLuhan gets to know in the afterlife，whether he can remind us that ,in the process of daily loves to manage，the blog is the extensions of thought？And whether we will feel a bit of shock to be reminded that as well?
Says on the present actual situation，people have different understanding and cognizance regarding blog，and have various purposes in using it．One maybe use it to collect information，to reveal facts，as it is oneself ‘s individual media；One maybe use it to show oneslf，to confide sentiment，as it is oneself ‘s random space；One maybe use it to forgather friends，to communicate aspiration，as it is oneself ‘s communication tool．Nevertheless，whatever it is usd as，blog are no differences as the extensions of thought．Just as McLuhan said，For the ＂message＂ of any medium or technology is the change of scale or pace or pattern that it introduces into human affairs．The railway did not introduce movement or transportation or wheel or road into human society，but it accelerated and enlarged the scale of previous human functions，creating totally new kinds of cities and new kinds of work and leisure．The airplane by accelerating the rate of transportation，tends to dissolve the railway form of city，politics，and association，quite in
dependently of what the airplane is used for． While blog，regardless of whatever it bear(links or original) and whatever it is used as(individual media，self space，or communication tool)，itself has been changing our mood，intercommunication，understanding，even attitude and sense，which has been forming our new character，new society，new study，new work and new life．
